Once again students from the Junior Royal Northern College of Music provided an enthusiastic audience with an exceptional evening of music making at the February concert. The performers ranged from 14 to 18 years. David Jones provided piano accompaniment where appropriate.
Xander Croft (violin) opened the concert with an Allamande by Bach, returning to give a stunning performance of the first movement from Mozart's second violin concerto. He finished with a highly charge rendition Nigun by Bloch.
Nadia Plummer played Vivaldi's bassoon concerto and Grovlev's Sicilienne to great effect. To our surprise, she also sang arias by Gluck and Mozart and songs by Sullivan and McDowall. She has an astonishing stage presence.
The magical harp. It certainly was, in the hands of Alice Roberts, who entranced the audience with a Sonatina by Natra, Isle of Aigas, arranged by Rachel Hair, and pieces by Britten and Henson-Conant.
